Plastic Waste EPR Registration is a legal requirement for all producers, importers, and brand owners using plastic in packaging under the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016 (amended 2022). Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) ensures that producers take responsibility for the collection, recycling, and environmentally sound disposal of plastic waste generated from their products.
Plastic waste is one of the most persistent and harmful pollutants, causing severe environmental issues such as soil contamination, waterway blockage, and harm to marine and terrestrial wildlife. Mismanaged plastic waste can also contribute to greenhouse gas emissions and public health hazards.

Registration on the CPCB portal is required to obtain the EPR Authorization Certificate, which is typically valid for 5 years.
Process
- Prepare detailed EPR plan including types of plastic used, estimated plastic waste generation, and proposed collection and recycling methods.
- Collect necessary legal and company documents, including GST, company registration, and agreements with recyclers and collection centers.
- Submit the EPR plan and documents to the CPCB or respective SPCB/PCC for review and approval.
- CPCB/SPCB officials scrutinize the application and may request clarifications within 25 days.
- After review and approval, EPR Authorization is granted, valid for 5 years with annual reporting requirements.
