E-Waste EPR Registration is a mandatory requirement under the E-Waste (Management) Rules 2022 for all producers, manufacturers, and importers of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE). Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) ensures that producers take responsibility for the collection, recycling, and safe disposal of e-waste generated from their products.
Electronic waste, or e-waste, includes outdated, defective, or discarded electrical and electronic equipment, from smartphones and laptops to refrigerators and medical devices. E-waste contains hazardous substances like mercury, lead, cadmium, and brominated flame retardants, which can harm human health and the environment if not managed properly.

Under E-Waste Management Rules, 2022, all producers must register on the CPCB portal under the appropriate category (manufacturer, producer, refurbisher, or recycler). Registration includes submitting a detailed EPR plan, establishing partnerships with authorized recyclers, and filing quarterly and annual returns. Failure to comply may result in penalties or legal restrictions on the sale of products.
Process
- Prepare detailed EPR plan including estimated e-waste generation and disposal methods.
- Collect technical and legal documents (GST certificate, company registration, agreements with recyclers, RoHS compliance declarations).
- Fill the application form in the prescribed format on the CPCB portal.
- Submit the application along with all required documents offline to the concerned authorities.
- CPCB officials scrutinize the application and request clarifications if needed (within 25 days).
- After approval, EPR Authorization is granted and valid for 5 years, with agreements renewed annually.
